NYC-JUNE-2010
Briana and I are gong to NYC this summer! We've been planning and saving since October last year. We are both very excited, me mostly because I get to watch my daughter experience NYC for the first time, and Briana, because she gets to experience NYC for the first time!!!! It will be a blast. We are going to do many touristy things but also do some native things.
I enjoy researching and finding bargains so it was only natural to try and find the best deals on everything from transportation to food. I bought the book Free and Dirt Cheap in NYC from Amazon (used of course) and started planning. That book is awesome, it tells you everything! We originally thought about flying to NYC but realized we might be limited on baggage, so we looked at alternative modes of transportation. I looked at Amtrack and found that we could travel from Cincinnati, OH to NYC-Penn Station for $200 less then we could fly. Did I mention we are allowed 2 carry on bags and 3 checked bags EACH!!!!! I'm bringing empty suitcases, just so I can fill them up! Granted it is a long train ride (17hrs) but it will be fun, and ADVENTURE! There is WIFI on most of the trains and Briana and I have never traveled by train before. It will be fun and exciting! My dad agreed to drive us to Atlanta, and of course we are going to make a stop at Trader Joes (thanks to Cyndy Wills for introducing me to the best store ever) before we get to the train station for some snacks and goodies to send home with my Dad.
Oh, I forgot to mention that I got a discount on my train tickets because I'm a AAA member! Yipee for discounts!
I looked at Hostels for cheap places to stay in NYC and I figured Briana and I wouldn't really be spending much time wherever we did stay. I found a few places I liked but I wasn't completely satisfied so I kept looking. I stumbled upon Airnb while searching for rooms to rent, and found some great places. We ended up finding a nice couple to rent a room from while we are in NYC for only $50 a night! Yes, I said $50 a night!
With all of that worked out now I can get to planning the things to do in NYC!
