One more day...

Well we've done everything on our list! We finished it up today. We went to St. Patricks Cathedral, Grishko, dylans, bloomingdales and finally Alvin Ailey again for another dance class. I know Bree is excited! We have really enjoyed our trip and have had so much fun! I'm proud of ourselves for not spending more than we had allotted and we did manage to do everything as well. Its truly been an amazing trip!

Boo Hoo...

Well we had every intention of going to the Today show this morning unfortunately we couldn't find a cab near our apartment at 4am. What the heck, i thought cabs were supposed to be everywhere! LOL anyway we made friends with the door man and he assured me I'd have a cab tomorrow morning at 4am to take us uptown. Ha! It sounds so funny saying uptown and downtown. We decided to go back to bed for a little while and just chill in our apartment for a bit. We are getting ready now to head out for the day. Bree has a dance class tonight at 6pm and we are getting haircuts today. We are heading to St. Patricks Cathedral to actually take pictures this time. We've passed it on the bus like 7 times! We are also heading to Dylan's candy bar!

Yesterday we had fun rowing boats in central park again. We were able to watch part of  Jewish wedding that was happening right near the bank and we took pictures of  our favorite turtle rock and the turtles around the rock of course. They are so cute! We went to FAO Shwartz and took pictures of the Plaza Hotel. We had to stop yesterday and buy Bree something to wear after dance because the outfit she brought with her was falling off. The shorts literally fell off. I think she's lost weight walking around in NYC! We bought something she's been looking at even before we got here so no wasted money. I think we've been doing pretty good money wise. We've been very frugal but still had lots of fun!

I'll keep you posted

Class and stuff...

Bree had an awesome time at the dance class! She said that it was different but very cool! She's taking another one tomorrow. We went to central park again today and walked around and rented a boat. We just love rowing boats in central pike!

Bored

Is it possible to be bored in NYC? I think I will be when Bree is in dance class today. Ill be playing games on the ipod! LOL! I'm so excited for Bree to take these classes today. It will be an eye opening experience. It will give her a taste of real nyc dancing!

We saw our first NYC gas station on the way to Alvin Ailey. I was wondering how all those cars got their gas! Depending on what time Bree is done dancing depends on what we do the rest of the day! Ill keep you posted!

Dance

Hey its Bree,
We are on the bus this morning on our way to Alvin Ailey. Mom signed me up for two classes and I'm so excited! I'm a little nervous but mom keeps telling me to do my best and not to worry. I still have butterflies.

Home after a long day

I'm not sure why the day was so long. I think part of it was the fact that the busses and subways were running very slow. I know there is supposed to be more traffic but seriously it was crazy today!

5th ave

We just got done with 5th ave and Carnegie Hall. We are now headed to Alvin Ailey then Central Park, and St. Patricks Cathedral.

Its been a fun day! We've been enjoying ourselves and stupid, cuz that's just what we do. Both of us are getting tired though and are feet and legs hurt. I won't tell Bree that cuz she'll say let's go home. She worries about me. I don't think shell tell me that her legs or feet hurt but I can see it in her eyes! LOL! Both not telling each other for fear of hurting the other one! Funny funny! Excited about coney island tomorrow!

Greenwhich Village flea market

The flea market was awesome! We ate corn on the cobb from the grill, bought cool stuff and enjoyed lemonade! The people were fun to look at too! Over all and awesome experience!

Flea Markets and stuff

We are headed out this morning to hit a couple places Bree wanted to see and take pictures of as well as some flea markets. I have mapped out or entire day via bus and subway. Well see how it goes.

Oh yeah, something funny, Bree is completely in aw of the parking lots where cars are parked in elevators. She thinks that's so cool!

New Stuff to do...

Hi its Bree,

We finished all the stuff on our list today about 3pm. We were sitting in Time Square coming up with new ideas. Mrs. Googe facebooked mom and gave her some new ideas and so did Ms. Reed. We're on our way home now and were going to plan out tomorrow and Sunday since we have some things to ad to our list. We had a great day. We got mad at Forever 21 for not taking something off the mannequin because it was the only one left in my size. We bought more stuff in chinatown and laughed at the people selling stuff out the back of vans and behind locked doors. Fake stuff of course. We took the bus and the subway and we ate ice cream from a street vendor, we bought some stuff from the thrift stores and tomorrow we're ready to mark more stuff off the list. Very awesome trip!!!!!

By for now

Bree on the bus!

Tonight

We are all done with everything on our list from Monday-Friday! Can't believe we got it all done and more. We have many more things on our list for the rest of the time so we will start on that tomorrow. We are heading to time square to eat dinner and hang out and just see what we can see!

Very exciting week so far! I'm having so much fun! I love hanging out with Bree!

Chinatown

We didn't finish Chinatown the other day when we were there so today we went back. We bought glasses a watch and had fun making fun of the fake stuff people were selling!

Pigeon Friends

Thrift Shopping

Bree and I are thrift shopping today! We have been to three vintage shops and attempted a visit to a third store that was more hip but they were closed. We bought old playbills at one store to decorate with. Bree tried a dress on at a the third store but decided against it. We are now on our way to Goodwill. We have a couple more stops and then were off to a candy store and chinatown.
We've taken the bus all day! We are really getting good at it!

Oh yeah we made friends with a pigeon! Pics to come!

American Museum of Natural History

I know I look so excited

More Rowing

This is or Danielle who said I had to post a pic of me rowing I'm gritting my teeth!

Rowboat

Trader Joes

Trader Joes was a bust, Twice! We went to one location that I found on google and it was closed! Boo hoo, good thing though B/C we went to a Container Store! Bree was in heaven cuz she likes to organize stuff! I also went into Sports Authority and bought another pair of sneakers. We did make it to the 2nd Trader Joes and the line was like 40-50 people deep! It was crazy! Bree and I decided to come back in the morning one day before we leave.
So now were headed home on the bus! We have one transfer to make. Bree keeps saying how proud she is we are getting around without asking to many questions or getting lost. We usually have to ask someone which way is East or West or Uptown and Downtown but other than that, we got it covered!

We hit Tribeca, and Little Italy, the Flat Iron District already and tomorrow we are going THRIFT SHOPPING! Yeah buddy!

Central Park

We just got done rowing a boat in central park! It was so fun and beautiful. Bree even rowed half the way. We didn't even tip the boat over! We really having the time of our lives! We did central park today, american museum of natural history, modern museum of art, NBC tour, and its only 7:30!

I forgot to tell you all that I saved money on my NBC studio tour! I had a coupon!

Subway

I loved the NBC tour and Bree enjoyed it again. She had gone on the tour previously with her church group. It was really neat to the studios up close and personal. No star sightings yet though.
We then proceeded to the subway underneath the Rockefeller Plaza and Bree thought it was so funny that there was a Subway in the Subway! LOL!
On our way to the American Museum of Natural History!

NBC

We are eating lunch now. We had a great time at MOMA! I think Bree really enjoyed it. We are going on the NBC Studio Tour at 1:00pm then we are off to the American Museum of Natural History!

MOMA

Hey its Bree-
I love MOMA! I love that normal people like me and extraordinary people like Picasso can have art displayed in the same place! Visual art, touchy feely art, and auditory art all in one place how amazing! My favorite was Bruce Nauman-Days. It was so cool! There are people displayed here that were way ahead of themselves like Picasso and then people that just took really cool pictures and made them into collections and people who thought of cool ideas and made them real. Oh so cool!!!!

Empire State of Mind

Hey all,
We visited the Empire State Building and we stayed till it was darkish (Brees's word not mind). WE are exhausted! I think we are sleeping in tomorrow! Will post when we get up!!

I can't believe we got more tix

Hey its Bree,
I can believe we got more good tickets this is so amazing! I mean I knew we would get tickets but not these great tix we've been getting! I stood in line this morning while mom sat down and rested her ankle. Its been hurting her. Anyway I'm totally excited about phantom! Got to Go!

We got TIX

We got phantom tix! Row R orchestra ! We got them half off, so roughly 65 a piece! It's actually a little more than I would have like to spend but they are great seats and Phantom is a magnificent show! We are waiting for the theatre to open now. Bree and I have already returned something at Victory Secret gone to the Capezio store and tried to by a new leo, and gotten tix to phantom. Overall a pretty good day!

Write more later!

Bree with the Phantom Tix

TKTS Booth

We are in line at the TKTS booth this morning,or rather Bree is in line and I'm sitting down listening to the WICKED music my friend Danielle gave us! I actually think Bree is listening to it on her Ipod in line as well! LOL! I like this set up!
There are roughly 250 people in line this morning for the mattinee shows. The line is actually moving, I think there are a lot of people who haven't looked at the board to see if what they want is even available. The line may come to a screeching hault as those people come to the window and have to be read the list of shows. I was speaking with a guy that works the window and he made a comment about foreigners and I couldn't help but think to myself "NYC is not the place to live if you don't like foreigners why not move to Nebraska or something. I'm not saying there aren't people from other countries that visit or live in Nebraska but I imagine whatever the number is its less than NYC! It amazes me in this day in age people still have prejudices (not sure that's a word). I can see some level of concern given the New Yorkers history with terrorist but honestly take off your blinders!

Ok back to the funny stuff. As I sit here I've see a wide array of people walk by. Some local, most not. I saw one lady with 5 kids that were all under the age of and another girl younger than Bree with shorts up her booty walking with her parents! Craziness!

Anyway Bree is at the front now so I've got to go get in line!

On our way home

We are on our way home from a most productive day! We took the same route home as we did last night! So proud of ourselves because we remembered the train and bus without even looking it up! We accomplished so much today and made new friends from Alaska in line at Wicked.
We got Bree some new pointe shoes, toe pads, canvas and leather ballet flats and had so much fun visiting with those girls at the store! We shopping at Century 21, Macy's and the M&J (soon the be the Bree and Jen) trim store and the only thing we came home with is trim for Bree and a watch for me! I forgot to blog about that trim store it was amazing! It was a whole store filled with just ribbon, lace, braiding and all kinds of trim! Absolutely the best store! We went to Trinity Church the NYSE, Time Square, and Broadway and took pictures. We got tickets to Wicked and went to the show and got home on the bus and train all by ourselves!

Off to bed, big show day tomorrow!

Wicked was awesome!

Hey its Bree,
Wicked was Wicked! I loved it!!!! It was so awesome! I can't believe we got tickets on our first night!
Mom is still wondering how they made Elphaba green. She's so interested in the backstage stuff. She kept saying oh how did they do that, or that looks neat, look at there costumes!
Someday mom and I will be making costumes for a broadway show!

WICKED!!!

We stood in line for Wicked lottery tickets! They only give out 26 tickets through the lottery and they are front row and cost us $26.50 each! OMG! That is insane! This show is sold out almost every night and the regular price for these tickets is roughly 150-200. I can not believe we got them! We both have been smiling since we left the lottery! This truly is a blessing from GOD!

Got to go the show is starting!

First Rat

Hi, its Bree
Just saw our first subway rat! Scared me at first as it ran across the patform! Then mom said, "dang we should have gotten a pic with our first subway rat"! She's so funny!

We are on our way to the Gershwin Theatre to enter the ticket lottery and hopefully God will bless us with tickets.

We just left Macy's and we didn't buy much. Mom bought a watch though!
I just seem to find anything I have to have except pointe shoes of course.

See Ya, its NYC Pizza time!

Bree enjoying a pretzel at Macy's!

Yes I said inside Macy's!

2nd day adventures

we are out and about today! Our legs and feet are a little sore but definitely manageable. Less walking, more riding today for sure! We stopped at our new favorite corner mart for our morning bagel and caffeine and the gentleman who seems to always be there no matter what time we remembered what we ordered yesterday morning! He even asked if we wanted our usual! Only 2 days and I'm already a local! Sorta!

We made it all the way to our destination on madison ave without a glitch. We took the subway and a bus, all by ourselves!
We spent 2 hours at Onstage (a dance store) getting Bree fitted for pointe shoes! The ladies there were so nice, they spend to much time with her. She tried on every kind/style of pointe shoe they had in every brand! Absolutely amazing that we found a pair! Woo hoo!
We are on our way to Broadway and 34th (Macy's) yeah baby!

More later!

Great day shopping...

I vetoed most of my morning plans so that we could shop! We did go to Battery Park, and ride on the Staten Island Ferry to see Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, however the rest of the day that was supposed to be spent touring the Financial District was spent shopping on Canal , Broadway, Houston, Mercer, and some others Bree and I weren't really familiar with. Bree was not as much fun shopping as I thought she would be. I kept asking her if she wanted to buy anything and she kept saying no. Boring! We came here to have fun and spend some money. We bought some little things on Canal, earrings, head bands, and a wallet. That's it! Boo hoo! We rode the subway to Canal and the bus home, we definitely still look like tourists. We did stumble upon NYU and Bree was enthralled! I'm not sure if she just liked the fact that NYU's colors are purple and grey or if she liked the fact that
the school was in right smack in the middle of all the hustle and bustle. I can definitely see Bree going to school here in the future. We passed a window with three mannequins in it and she just stopped, they all had clothing on that some of the design students had done.
I think that excited her more than shopping.

We are on the way to eat uptown and then on to the Lincoln Center to see ABT perform Swan Lake!

I love NYC!

Hey guys its Bree!
I can't believe we are here! Its so exciting! I felt so anxious after we hit the DC stop but mom calmed me down a bit after she grabbed my arms and said AHHHH were going to NYC! She's so funny! We moved all our luggage up to the front of our car so we could get it off the train quickly! We did and when we took the escalator up to the street I got so excited I screamed and mom was like SHHHHH!

We made it!

We made it in to Penn Station last night about 10:15pm. We managed to get all five bags out to the street and into a cad all by ourselves! No one would have even known we didn't really no what we were doing! We got to our apartment and paid the cabby without incident. Our apartment has a view of the world financial center and the World Trade Center site. We got semi organized and then headed down stairs to get a drink and a bite to eat. There is a little 24hr cafe/convenient store right next to our apartment. It has bagels, sandwiches and all manor of drink! We grabbed a sandwhich wrap and went back to our apartment for showers and sleep! I haven't been to NYC since I was Briana's age and I must say I had forgotten how amazing the city is!

We made it to D.C-3 hours to go!

We made it to D.C! We have caught up on our sleep and as soon as the train stops we will practically have the whole train to ourselves! I think Bree is going to run up and down the isles! Overall its been an enjoyable ride! I would definitely do it again. We've been able to relax, see the sights, and eat without having to stress!

Hi, its Bree, I loved the train ride! It was fun, the best part was trying to go to the bathroom while the train swayed back and forth. Not really but it was funny! I'm getting excited about NYC!

On the Train

Well we made it on the train and have made some friends too. I haven't had much sleep but Bree has had about 4-5 hrs, lucky her! I was to anxious to sleep really. Not knowing what to expect I was looking around just observing everything. Very strange, train rides are! When people ask where we are from and I say TN they look at me in amazement. Like they are surprised I have all my teeth and have managed to wear shoes! LOL! Its kinda funny! As we've been riding along I've seen some very beautiful scenery and some very strange scenery. I never realized what sort of things are near train tracks. We passed some beautiful homes that I could practically see into we were so close, and other homes nestled into the mountain surrounded by trees made of just wood. I wonder if they have running water and electricity. We saw a beautiful river that converged onto a rocky quarry of sorts that
created this beautiful cascade of small waterfalls. Gorgeous really! What a beautiful country side!

Breakfast on the train was an experience! Not necessarily a bad one but most definitely interesting. We walked through three coach cars and a lounge car to get to the communal dinning room. Yes, I said communal, as in the table seats four and if you have two in your party you will be seating across from two complete strangers. I don't know what I thought it would be like but it turned out to be fun! We ate breakfast with these two older ladies from Louisville, who love hearing Bree talk about dance and anything else really. They seem to be reliving every moment with Bree as she speaks! Very cute to watch someone else be as enthralled with Bree as I am everyday! Our breakfast that consisted of a bagel with turkey bacon and a perfectly round egg and cheese with a side of potatoes! Not bad for train food? What is train food supposed to taste like? It tasted good I think, I'm no sure
really because I think I was so hungry I would have eaten anything they put in front of me! $18 later we are back in our seats. Bree is watching a movie and I'm going to try and catch a nap!

Write more soon!

Well we've made it to Cincinnati safely. The train station is the cutest thing I've ever seen! Its so old school. It is exactly the way my grandmother used to describe it! There are old telephone booths and many of the old fixtures are still in place! Absolutely amazing!

We arrived at the station and I ran in to get our tickets while Bree and Dad unloaded the luggage. No problem there, we had already purchased tickets so it was just a matter of picking them up. Easy as pie! I asked a question about luggage and the Amtrak representative informed me there was NO checked baggage at this station! WHAT! I don't even know what that means I thought. I am so nervous, and excited I didn't even let it phase me. I ran out to help bring the luggage in. When I cam back in , the Amtrak representative came over and explained what "NO checked baggage meant". I mean seriously I guess if I took it literally it would mean exactly that. Unfortunately, in my life, nothing seems to go that way. He explained that all my luggage would be on the train with me. I thought to myself, um yeah, I don't want it off the train! LOL! If I wasn't so tired I might have actually said that
out loud instead of just thinking it! I looked at him puzzled, so he began to explain further. You will be with your luggage. OK, I thought, still puzzled, I asked where my luggage would be. He said overhead. Hmmm, I turned and looked at my Dad and Bree and I'm sure both of them were waiting on me to say something. Really though what could I say? We have 6 suitcases, an overnight bag, a carry on luggage bag, backpack, and two pillows! LOL! Bree and I look like we are leaving for a trip that's going to last 30 days not 10! My Dad kept saying don't worry about it now just worry about it when u get to NYC. UM, NO! I looked at Bree and said start opening suitcases and condensing what we have! She hopped right on that! We did have plenty of room in all our suitcases but I had every intention of using the allotted 3 checked bags each. We are going to NYC! I'm coming back with more than I
came! We managed to empty one whole Suitcase into two others and we emptied one whole duffle bag of shoes into another and had to send some home with Dad! We did keep the duffle bag in one of the suitcases so we could use it on the way back if we needed to. If you know me, I'm very organized and can fit 10lbs of stuff in a 5lb bag. I didn't do that this time b/c I didn't want things wrinkled and wanted to leave room. Oh well! They are wrinkled now! No worries we are here and heading to NYC in a couple hours! Deep breaths! BTW-Bree is sleeping!

All our luggage!

3 hours until we leave for Cincinnati

Well we are all packed except for a few small things that need to go into the train bags. We are definitely getting excited! My stomach has one butterfly in it. Just one. LOL! We are taking Amtrak up on their offer of 3 checked bags each and 2 carry-ons. I know I could have packed it all in probably 4 bags but we spread things out to that we would have room for more stuff!!!!

Briana will be posting some too soon, she's sleeping now!

We leave tonight!!!

Well the day has finally come. We leave tonight for Cincinnati about 7pm. Our train leaves tomorrow at 3:29am.
We are still packing and getting things organized. I finally finished the itineraries and will be posting them every evening for the following day. It really hasn't hit me yet, I'm going to NYC! Yipee. Ok, I've got to get back to packing. I'll write more later!

The week before we leave...

Where do I begin. I've been doing so well planning everything that I thought this week heading up to our departure would actually run very smoothly, I was wrong! Very WRONG!  It has just been a non-stop avalanche all week.
Disclaimer:  I am very aware that people all over this country and in many other countries live ever day of their life without the luxuries we are privy too. I am not complaining in the following story, just merely stating fact.

First my AC unit went out Monday,  and my landlord said it would be Friday before a new one could be installed. Its HOT! It's REALLY HOT! I seriously thought I was going to melt the first night Briana, 3 dogs, a cat, and I slept in the house with only 2 boxes fans. Yes, you read that right!  After doing that I made other arrangements. I planned on sleeping at the office on the air mattress but, God has other plans. A huge storm hit the next night and knocked the electric out on the street where the office is. FUN! no electric, no fans, no air, oh joy! Briana and I went back to the house and slept another night, and we indeed melted. Have you ever been stuck to your sheets. Yep, we were, most definitely stuck to our sheets. OK,OK, now you'd think that would be the worst of it, right? WRONG! The electric finally came back on the next day at the office so we were seriously excited about being able to sleep with air conditioning. While all of this AC business is going on, stuff at my job is just blowing up in my face. Caregivers acting funny, having issues, and clients making unreasonable demands. I'm trying to hold it all together and honestly, I must admit, I was doing a pretty darn good job, until this morning. I am driving around this morning and oh know, what's that, my car's heat gage goes up to HOT! Oh fun, so now I'm going to have to take my car in for service, I think I'll just leave it at the shop while I'm gone.

Did I mention that I have a million things to do that I haven't been able to do because I can't be home longer then 5 minutes because it's 110 degrees inside my house.

First Two Days....

I finished the first two days itineraries. I'll give you the brief details below.

Day One

Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island via the Staten Island Ferry in the morning then we are off to explore the Financial District. We will finish up the morning by visiting Trinity Church, Ground Zero. Then we will eat a light lunch and head back to our apartment, to get ready for Swan Lake.  We will be heading uptown to dinner at Giovanni's Italian Restaurant and then ABT's-Swan Lake! After Swan Lake we will head to the Empire State Building for a look at the city that never sleeps! It will be a late night but I think we can handle it. We will still be running on excitement!

Day Two

Eat Breakfast of champions (NYC BAGEL) then head to St. Patrick's Cathedral. Then we are headed to Rockefeller Center, Madison Avenue, and the Avenue of the Americas for some shopping! We have to be at the Gershwin Theater  by 11:15am to get in line to sign up for the Ticket Lottery. The drawing is 30 minutes later so we will see if we get tickets and that will determine whether or not we go to the show or if we head off to do other things. If we don't get tickets then we will head to Time Square to shop and have a look around. Next Stop, TKTS booth Time Square to see what we can get. Lunch @ the International House and then the NBC Studio Tour. Then shopping and hopefully a show that we were able to get tickets too.

Got the Suitcases down from the attic....

Well we got the suitcases down from the attic this evening and we laid them out so we can survey the space we have to work with. We worked on Briana's clothes and stuff first, she's so easy, it only took us about 30 minutes to come up with like 10 outfits for her to bring with her. We put the clothes in the wash and now waiting for them to dry. I told we would pack everything she wanted to bring clothes wise this weekend and she can wear what she has in her drawers and closet this next 7-8 days so we don't have to scramble to do laundry. I have a limited wardrobe, so I went to Target and bought some shorts and some t-shirts so I'll have some more things to take.

Getting really excited!

Thursday, June 10, 2010

8 days until we leave....WOW!

I can not believe it's just 8 days away. I'm getting soooooo very excited! I was sitting on the couch last night with Briana and her friend watching Dear John and I just burst out with "WERE GOING TO NEW YORK"!!!!
I could not contain myself. I know that poor little girl was probably like, OK, your mom is crazy. Lucky for me she was on my volleyball team last fall and she knows I get a little too excited sometimes. LOL!

I think Briana and I will do most of our packing this weekend because I think I will be busy with work next week and loose track of time. I've got to go shopping before we go, because I don't own a pair of shorts. I think I saw some pretty good deals at Target and Kohls on some cute Bermuda shorts. I will probably be able to fit all my stuff in one bag but Briana's the one that is going to need more than one bag.

I'm a little overwhelmed by the planning and I think that's why I haven't actually typed up all my itineraries day by day. I have this huge list of places to go and things to see, and it's all separated by area so now I just need to put it all down by day. Just a little overwhelming. When I plan my days out for work or on the weekends it's so much easier. I think because I know this city and I know the shortcuts and roughly how long it takes to get from place to place. I don't know that kind of stuff about NYC, it's all a guesstimation (is that even a word).

I WILL (i have to keep saying it like that) be typing up my itineraries this weekend and posting them!

Tuesday, June 1, 2010

19 days and counting...

Well Briana just got home from her trip to Hoboken, NJ. She was able to go into the city one day and she said she had a blast! They went on the NBC tour, on a carriage ride and they did some shopping! She really didn't buy much because she wanted to wait until we went back. I love her!!! She said she absolutely adored it and couldn't wait to go back.

We are getting pretty close to our departure date and I'm still busy planning our itineraries. I will post them once I have finished and you all can follow along. Hopefully I'll be following them pretty closely and I'll be posting pictures as we go. Briana and I are both pretty busy up until the day we leave so the excitement probably won't really set in until the day we start driving to the train station!!!!!!
